Pros and Cons to Owning a Chihuahua

It seams that everywhere you turn these days there's a Chihuahua. They are in movies, on television, billboards, they are even mascots for food. But people say that they are yappy, aggressive and can even be down right mean. Well there has to be something about these little guys that make them so popular. So what's the real story on these tiny pups?

Chihuahuas are known for being so popular because of there tiny size. The smaller the better in the world of Chihuahuas and the smallest out there is what is known as a teacup Chihuahua. These little guys make traveling with a pet about as easy as it gets. They can make a comfy home in your purse or fit easily just about anywhere. And don't worry they don't mind being in a small spot., Chihuahuas are actually burrowers. They by nature like to be in small covered shelters. Mostly you will find them sleeping under blankets, furniture or anywhere they can find. As cute and cozy as it sounds there are drawbacks to this as well. They are constantly digging!! They will furiously dig at one spot for what seems like hours. This can ruin furniture, bedding and flooring. However this burrowing also makes them huge cuddlers. They like to sleep in the bend of your arm or leg or under your chin. If you want a snuggle buddy you've got one in a Chihuahua.

Another downside you may have heard of owning a Chihuahua is that they are very protective of their owner. This may make them great loyal animals but if somebody gets to close to there mommy...look out here come the teeth!! This however can be avoided with proper training. It is best to adopt a Chihuahua at a very young age and do what is known as "socializing" them. Take them out where ever you go and when people swoon over how cute they are ( and trust me it's a lot) pass them over and let the stranger hold them. This teaches your pup that its ok and will dramatically lower the likely hood of this bad behavior forming before it starts.

All in all there are definite pro's and cons to owning a Chihuahua. If you take the time to properly train and socialize them they make wonderful pets. Dress them up in cute outfits, take them anywhere and you have a best friend for life. So if your ready for lots of snuggling then you and your pup will be a perfect match.

See celebrity favorite dog clothing and accessories at http://www.shopelectrictangerine.com.
